(written on August 16th 2009)

As my summer is coming to an end I look back and reflect on the what it was truly about. As I was preparing to leave Abu Dhabi around two months ago I wrote down some aims for this summer, only a few that I have actually achieved during this time.

To me, the past couple of months were a time of reflection, as I had a lot of free time on my hands. It was also a time to bond with the family members I’ve travelled with, and miss the rest that have travelled elsewhere or stayed back at home.

This summer, after 14 summers in the same place, was the first time that I warmed up to the little french town and I must say that I miss it already. There isn’t really much to it except for the beautiful view I wake up to every morning and the wonderful people that vacate there who already feel like family.
Things I learned: Not take Etisalat’s not-so-great services for granted, how to walk and walk to get what you want (I walked around 5km straight to get my Louboutins!), how my nieces and nephews turned out to be more entertaining that I thought, to avoid wearing heels on cobbled roads (it was very amusing to watch girls who did)
Things I’m going to miss: The serenity, the gorgeous dawns and sunsets, wearing a trench coat, the Doner Kebabs, the evening strolls on the lake with MmeMonstre, Laduree’s rose and caramel macaroons, the Parisian walks
Things I’m not going to miss: The rudeness of the French, waking up daily to the unbearable heat, the horrible services, the dog poop that I’ve been trying to avoid endlessly

Things I missed back home: My best friends, being pampered by the philipinas, wearing an abaya, my iMac, my entertainment room, Dubai Mall, big rooms, big roads, big spaces!

I’m back! I know it has been a long time since my last post, but I can say that a fair amount of things have happened that distracted me greatly in the past eight months. I’ll skip the details of the distractions and talk about the wild distractions I had last evening in Geneva.

It has been a while since I last spent a Sunday evening in Geneva on foot, and I must say that last night I witnessed a crazy concentraion of superficial clones! I couldn’t believe the amount of aviators and RL polos that I saw; nor the killer heels that were worn on a carnival site. I do get the fact that people are trying to be stylish but why can’t they each have their own style and identity?! That said, I’ve seen a few (the word ‘few’ underlined twice) gorgeously dressed people that have an unmistakable sense of elegance to them.

My morning coffee is calling now..  I’ll leave you with a few blackberry photos from the trip to Bordeaux last week  ^_^

Yesterday was soooooooooooooo much fun and exhausting that I went to sleep without updating my blog.

I woke up at 7:30 with the sad excuse of wanting to fix my sleeping pattern ( it worked yesterday, but I woke up at 1:30 today >_<). I suddenly craved Costa’s Turkey Ham and Three Cheese sandwhich and a triple shot, medio vanilla latte but hated the fact that all my friends are at work. So I go online and find MYTH.Graphy, who decided to ditch work and join me for breakfast =D

Here’s where the fun started; I don’t know if any of you visited the Costa next to ZU in AD but reaching there is kindof mind boggling. My driver missed the entrance so we decided to enter by reversing into Costa’s service road’s exit. Myth also missed the entrance so she also decides to enter from the exit at the same time we were reversing. Breaking the law runs in our blood lol!!

I later went back home and finished building and decorating my little hut for the night’s BBQ. It turned out amazingly cozy with the fire burning outside. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves ^_^

So my best friend wakes me up this morning and asks me to help her set up a surprise party, I say ok and then receive a text msg saying “see u in 10″. I had to read it over 3 times to grasp that it said IN 10 not AT 10!!  From that moment on, we were in a race against time setting up the snowflake decorations as randomly and tastefully as possible. I’m glad everything turned out wonderfully in the end, really felt like winter ^_^

I was planning on going to the “Journey to Mecca’ world premiere tonight but cancelled in the last minute >_<. I’m sure watching a historical movie on an outdoor iMax screen would’ve been exciting.

A Fresh Start

“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.”

First and foremost, before I start my blogging journey, I’d like to thank my dear friend MYTH.Graphy for giving me the push I’ve always waited for =D Thanks a lot hun!!

Here we are in a brand new year; hmm I wonder what it has in store for us. I don’t think it started off well, although I won’t let any of these things put me down in any way.

I just finished reading ‘The Monk Who Sold his Ferrari’, was supposed to discuss it in my book club meeting last night but unfortunately the flu had the best out of me and didn’t make it. I must say that it has been a while since I was last inspired by a book, and this was one of the few truly inspiring books that I have read in my life.  I now seriously believe that you can get anything you want out there if you want it so badly, you just have to believe that you’re going to get it and, even though the book doesn’t mention this, believe in Allah and with a simple du’aa unlimited doors would open up to you.

It’s amazing how books like these leave a big mark on us, although it has all been taught in islam for thousands of years. It has been stressed that if you are positive and look forward to pleasant things they will eventually happen to you. However, it takes many of us a philosophical book to open up our eyes to these things that we have taken for granted for so long.

Taking a break from reading...

That said, here’s what I learned:

  • Be POSITIVE
  • Write down your plans, no matter how small they are because, surprisingly, it gets easier to stick to them when they’re down on paper
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff, life’s too short to stress over silly things
  • Pursue your passion! Don’t do things because you feel obliged to do them. If you have a dream, then go for it!!
  • Always remember that your life has been written ahead of you and everything that happens was meant to be. If something goes wrong, then maybe it’s for the best.
  • The stronger your faith is, the happier your life would be =)
